ZOLAR X: Music
Slab Lab
In 1977 at 1055 La Jolla in West Hollywood, in between ZOLAR X's, I (Ygarr) ran into Rock Bottom at the dumpster. We hit it off & talked about music. That night Rock, Elias & Blank Frank (future Spys) visited me and Charlie Patton (aka Slab) in our apartment #6 & I began to write a bunch of punk-rock songs-one being the present-day riff of Slab Lab. With Rock's lyrics coming a few days later, the song was titled "I'm No Surfer" performed only one time at the Whisky a Go Go in 1978. Thirty one years later, with new lyrics, ZOLAR X has released this as a digital single from the "Observations of Earth" album-dedicating the single to all members of Rock Bottom and the Spys who are no longer living. God rest their souls.
1st verse
8228 – Through the allies broken gate
Enter at your own risk
Into the cement abyss
Broken bottles, empty beers
Lost souls, wasted years
Hookers with stiletto heels
Junkie bangers, popping pills…
2nd verse
Sirens wailing, cops with cuffs
Fire Marshalls, acting tough
Void of humanity
Kick in the door that was the key
Crash pad promenade, blood spilt,
Trash bouquet, music faded
Art cried, overdoses, many died…
3rd verse
Not for the faint of heart
Across from Chateau Marmont
A haven for punk refugees
Dirty mattress, new disease
Needle, spoon, dope & cotton
Cocaine plans, names forgotten
On Sunset in tinsel town
L.A.’s underground!
