ZOLAR X: News

To Baby Boomers & Zolar X Fans... - June 20, 2011

In 2005 I wrote a delart (song) titled A History of Rock. It has gone through many different stages of recording, mixing, review and more changes. It is ALMOST ready to release. This is a demo version on our Zolar X Band Page at Facebook. We have a few more tweaks we'll be doing to it and wanted to share it with you this summer.

...It's a trip down memory lane...Enjoy the voyage...Nok voo (thank you) Ygarr of Zolar X

A History of Rock (lyrics)

The Beatles Liverpool wave

Brian Jones the Stone of the day

Who’s Moon was shining bright

You really got me on a kinky night

Birds in the yard

Breaking blues really hard

Experiencing Purple Haze

Ed Sullivan

Chorus:

Those are the days, when rock was born

Sweet little Sixteen Chuck Berry’s dream

Blueberry Hill, Jailhouse Rock, Peggy Sue

and Les Paul too...

The Wilson’s sang like angels from above

Supremes Stop in the name of  Love!

Janice brought  your soul to tears

Otis walks the dock for years

Morrison’s Doors light my fire

The Airplane flew white rabbits higher

For what it’s worth Buffalo’s gritty

A spoonful for a summer in the city

Chorus:

Those are the days, when rock was born

Sweet little Sixteen Chuck Berry’s dream

Blueberry Hill, Jailhouse Rock, Peggy Sue

and Les Paul too...

Those are the days, of Little Richard’s throne

and Nancy’s boots walked alone

I got you babe can’t be forgot

Haley’s comet rocked around the clock

Observations of Earth - June 12, 2011

Nop trea (Greetings) planet Earth.

Still deciding the details of the newest album (Observations of Earth) that will be released in the near future. This album (from our perspective) looks at Planet Earth's societal behavior, warring factions and other planetary issues. We've been working on this for many months and have more than enough material for one album...now it's picking which delerts (songs) will be on it. One of the new ones is on the homepage - Life Signs from the Stars.

Nok voo (thank you).

We look forward in communications.

Dirty_Water_album_cover.jpg

"There have been many punk collections over the years and former Zigzag fanzine editor Kris Needs possesses most of them so, when it came to compiling his own, he decided to avoid the predictable, except where totally warranted. Although featuring names without whom such a compilation should never be without, the set also highlights less likely candidates through their influence, attitude or sheer courage in the face of adversity; mavericks and rebels shooting for the stars and going against the grain..."

ZOLAR X and Death - December 20, 2010

Two Bands Planet Earth Almost Missed at Slim's in SF February 25, 2011!

ZOLAR X and DEATH

This will be an X-citing show to say the least! Both bands have history from the 70's, one from California and the other from Detroit. Both bands have been cited as being revolutionary-ahead of their time-and there are also some other interesting parallels in their stories.

ZOLAR X (Wiki):

Zolar X is an early punk rock band, established in 1973...From 1973 to 1981 Zolar X became legendary on the west coast USA for dressing and acting like space-aliens 24 hours a day. They spoke ceaselessly in an "alien language" of their own invention, which would amuse, but often infuriate the public at large. They are referred to as "Los Angeles' first glam rock band" in the 1998 book Glam by Barney Hoskyns. Zolar X's origin is included in author Marc Spitz and Brendan Mullen's quintessential 2001 book on the Los Angeles punk scene We Got The Neutron Bomb.

About Death...excerpt from the NY Times article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/15/arts/music/15rubi.html?_r=1

"The group’s music has been almost completely unheard since the band stopped performing more than three decades ago. But after all the years of silence, Death’s moment has finally arrived. It comes, however, nearly a decade too late for its founder and leader, David Hackney, who died of lung cancer in 2000. “David was convinced more than any of us that we were doing something totally revolutionary,” said Bobby Sr., 52.

Forgotten except by the most fervent punk rock record collectors — the band’s self-released 1976 single recently traded hands for the equivalent of $800 — Death would likely have remained lost in obscurity if not for the discovery last year of a 1974 demo tape in Bobby Sr.’s attic. Released last month by Drag City Records as “... For the Whole World to See,” Death’s newly unearthed recordings reveal a remarkable missing link between the high-energy hard rock of Detroit bands like the Stooges and MC5 from the late 1960s and early ’70s and the high-velocity assault of punk from its breakthrough years of 1976 and ’77. Death’s songs “Politicians in My Eyes,” “Keep On Knocking” and “Freakin Out” are scorching blasts of feral ur-punk, making the brothers unwitting artistic kin to their punk-pioneer contemporaries the Ramones, in New York; Rocket From the Tombs, in Cleveland; and the Saints, in Brisbane, Australia. They also preceded Bad Brains, the most celebrated African-American punk band, by almost five years..."

Slab Lab - at iTunes - January 14, 2010

The digital single, Slab Lab, is now available on iTunes. Here is some background about the song which we have also posted under Music/Slab Lab:

"In 1977 at 1055 La Jolla in West Hollywood, in between ZOLAR X's, I (Ygarr) ran into Rock Bottom at the dumpster. We hit it off & talked about music. That night Rock, Elias & Blank Frank (future Spys) visited me and Charlie Patton (aka Slab) in our apartment #6 & I began to write a bunch of punk-rock songs-one being the present-day riff of Slab Lab. With Rock's lyrics coming a few days later, the song was titled "I'm No Surfer" performed only one time at the Whisky a Go Go in 1978. Thirty one years later, with new lyrics, ZOLAR X has released this as a digital single from the "Observations of Earth" album-dedicating the single to all members of Rock Bottom and the Spys who are no longer living. God rest their souls."

Prop Design has Begun - January 13, 2010

Part of the ZOLAR X show we bring to planet Earth is music and part is theater. This week officially begins the designing and building of the props that are part of our show. Moto Bass Unit and I will be going to an Earthen hardware store tomorrow. Retro...Space...Rock and Roll...The Plutonian Elf, Ygarr Ygarrist.

Booking Agent Needed - January 7, 2010

ZOLAR X is looking for a booking agent for two major tours in 2010. We will be going to SxSW in March, a very prestigious music festival, and will be playing gigs both to and from the festival. We are also planning a national Summer tour.

Nok Voo, Ygarr of ZOLAR X.
